Tuvia, a veteran educator, is meant to return from a vacation in the Galilee in time for the circumcision ceremony of his first grandchild. Instead, a sudden phone call from the London police brings news of his mysterious death.
His funeral takes place at the very hour when Egyptian President Anwar Sadat delivers his historic speech to the Israeli Knesset. No one attends the funeral except for his wife and their three children.
His wife, Devora, decides to close the shiva to visitors. She and her children are now confined for seven days to a series of piercing, moving, and funny confrontations – a shiva without comforters and without comfort.
