About the Show

An enchanting romantic comedy about happiness – nobody really knows when it will befall! A beautifully written classic Israeli drama by Yosef Bar Yosef, Israel Prize laureate, and one of Israel’s most prominent playwrights with a career spanning over fifty years. The play has garnered unprecedented critical acclaim worldwide. While in search of students for the ballet class that she would like to open under the auspices of the Regional Council, Ida, a new immigrant ballet teacher from Russia, finds herself in a beautiful orchard belonging to the Head of the Regional Council, Menashe Zirkin. This orchard, so typically Israeli, and its fresh fragrances, bring her back to her love of beauty, which she had nearly lost upon making aliyah to Israel; Menashe Tzirkin, the widowed orchard owner, immediately becomes the object of her affections. Their unexpected love story encounters fierce opposition on the part of Menashe’s siblings, Boaz and Tzvia, who have set their sights on the orchard and fear that it will be registered under Ida’s name. They cannot reconcile with her beauty, joie de vivre and the change that the love-struck Tzirkin is experiencing. And it appears that Tzirkin and Ida themselves are finding it difficult to contain the happiness that has befallen them in mid-life.

And how does it end? It’s bitter-sweet – as in real life – like an orange from the orchard!
