Rafa, an investigative military police officer who began his service as a paratrooper,
arrives to conduct an investigation on a base in the territories. Over the course of the investigation, which is full of obstacles and pits him against his former comrades-in-arms, he is forced to choose between his loyalty to his friends and his loyalty to the truth – which everyone around him considers unnecessary.
As the story unfolds, we discover the complex relationship between Rafa and Yotam, the unit commander and his old friend and rival. The two are bound tightly together in a love-hate relationship – sometimes in great closeness, sometimes in fierce conflict.
Between them stands Tamar, the office clerk and Yotam’s girlfriend. For her, the encounter between Rafa and Yotam is an opportunity to examine her relationship with her boyfriend, and to try to understand the meaning of “the unit.”
As Rafa’s investigation progresses, Tamar gradually uncovers a formative experience that the two men share from their basic training days. This discovery pulls her away from Yotam and brings her closer to Rafa – but ultimately distances her from them both, into the solitude of those loyal only to themselves.
One of Us is the story of an individual struggling to maintain his freedom in the face of a group that demands he give up his uniqueness and dissolve into it. It is the story of a society that carries the slogan “one for all – all for one” – and the terrible, tragic consequences such a slogan can have when people cling to it without compromise.
